Yris about her dreamy first album The riverside

The 21-year-old french singer-songwriter, Yris, has recently released her first full-lengh studio album, called The riverside. In 2012, she met success with her first single "L'abbaye", selling over 80 000 copies of the song on the Internet. Today, Yris returns to music and she is going to tell us about her studio record.

One aspect she can talk about is the album itself and why the music has a dream-like quality: "I just really wanted it to feel like a dreamy escape. You really feel like you're falling into a rabbit hole of sounds. So that's the kind of record I made. It's pretty short. It's 10 songs. It's meant to be listened through your headphones." 

Also, the songs she wrote for the set aren't necessarily about her life. "It's more philosophical. It's more about the human condition," Yris explains. "I listen to Agnes Obel almost every day, and there's almost an ambient approach to the lyrics. You hear certain phrases and you actually calm down. You actually chill out. I love that in music. It can almost be hypnotic. There's definitely stories in it."

The singer teamed up with a few different producers, including The Madpix project, Campfire Harvet, Ghema, JNATHYN... They worked together on the album's songs, and Yris says the process was awesome. "It's so wonderful when you have a really good working relationship with your partner," yris explains. "There are amazing. It's such a pleasure working with them". 

Recorded in France from the end of 2013 to 2015, The riverside is an electronic record with dance, chillstep, house and trance influences. "It's a meeting between energy and emotion. And a mix between euphoria and sadness too", she says.

In order to conclude, Yris says that her album was recorded, thinking about season changes, summer and beach. "I'm a beach girl. Who doesn't love the beach ? Everyone wants a beautiful beach. I really love to walk along the beach or along the river in the sweet summer warmth. But the winter inspired me too. Nature is a strong theme throughout the album."
